I’ve had dogs in my life since childhood, and caring for them has always felt completely natural to me. My beloved dog Sooky, who lived to 19, taught me so much about supporting an elderly dog with patience, gentleness, and daily medical care. That experience, along with fostering sick and recovering dogs, has made me very confident in administering medication, following special diets, and managing more complex routines.
Over the years I’ve worked in a veterinary clinic, fostered dogs for Dogs Trust and My Lovely Horse Rescue, and taken in more strays and rescues than I can count. One of those foster dogs eventually became my own my little terrier Rusty, who has been a joy in my life ever since.
My Approach to Dog Personalities
My experience ranges from easy‑going pets to nervous, reactive, or medically fragile dogs. I’ve learned that patience, respect, and calm consistency make all the difference. I don’t believe in “bad” dogs only dogs who need understanding and the right kind of care. I take time to read their body language, understand their comfort levels, and build trust at their pace.
Dog Walking
Walks are tailored to each dog’s needs:
-> 30–60 minute walks for most dogs
-> Shorter, slower walks for seniors or dogs with mobility issues
-> Quiet routes for anxious dogs
-> More active outings for high‑energy dogs
-> I walk dogs individually unless an owner requests otherwise, so each dog gets my full attention.
Most improtantly I will be openly communicative with the owner as this gives the best insight as to what they would like for their dog or what routines they would like to ensure be kept.
Day Care & House Sitting in the Owner’s Home
When I care for a dog in their own home, I follow their routine as closely as possible. This includes:
-> Keeping to their usual feeding time
-> Sticking to their normal walk schedule
-> Providing playtime, enrichment, and companionship
->Maintaining any house rules the owner has in place
-> Giving medication or special care when needed
Because I work from home and have a flexible schedule, I’m able to be present with the dog throughout the day, offering company, reassurance, and structure.
Why Dogs Mean So Much to Me
Dogs have always been more than pets they’re family. Rusty is part of everything we do. He was even “Best Dog” standing with my brother who was my best man at my wedding, and he came with us on our honeymoon to France. Any time I’ve adjusted plans to include him, it has only made the experience better.
That’s why I understand how difficult it can be when a trip or commitment can’t accommodate a dog. I want to give owners peace of mind in those moments. When someone trusts me with their dog, I care for them with the same affection, attention, and respect I give to Rusty.
What You Can Expect
If you choose me to look after your dog, they will be treated as a cherished member of the family kept safe, comfortable, and genuinely loved. I’m responsible, reliable, and fully committed to making sure every dog feels secure and happy in my care. I am happy with any follow up via a video call or photos to the owner to assure all is well with their dog. I understand the feeling of leaving a dog behind so I am happy to help aleviate any concerns or anxiety.
